One of the first things you should make a note to do once receive your residency is access your DigiD account. DigiD is the official digital signature service utilized by government based organizations and agencies. A list of all affiliated organizations is provided on their website (English option).
Why do you need a DigiD access?
This service allows you to access personal information, submit digital forms, and set-up automatic payments for water boards, law enforcement, healthcare and the tax office to name a few.
How do I apply for DigiD access?
To get DigiD access, you must apply for an activation code on their website. The national system is connected to your home address and citizen service number (burgerservicenummer), so have that information available.
Once you’ve applied, a letter with your activation code will arrive via mail in about a week. Login into the DigiD site and go to the activation code tab, from there plug in the username (all lowercase) and password you’ve created and the activation code.
